Anti-fibrotic
Angiotensin 1-7 is an endogenous 7-amino acid peptide that counterbalances the vasoconstricting effects of Angiotensin II. Acting on the MAS receptor, it causes vasodilation, reduces fibrosis, improves insulin sensitivity, and has cardioprotective effects. It rises endogenously with ACE inhibitor use and represents a therapeutic target in cardiovascular disease.
Hypotension at high doses
Dizziness
Flushing
Generally well tolerated
Not monitoring blood pressure when starting — the vasodilatory effect can cause hypotension, especially if already on antihypertensive medications
Expecting it to replace cardiovascular medications — Ang 1-7 is a research compound for optimization; do not adjust prescriptions without physician guidance
Under-dosing below 100 mcg/day — effects are dose-dependent in the available research
ACE inhibitors — ACE inhibitors increase endogenous Ang 1-7 levels; combined use may cause hypotension
Antihypertensives — additive blood pressure lowering; monitor carefully
BPC-157 — generally synergistic for cardiovascular and systemic anti-inflammatory benefit
Angiotensin 1-7 represents the 'protective' arm of the renin-angiotensin system — the counterbalance to Angiotensin II's vasoconstrictive effects. For those with hypertension, metabolic syndrome, or cardiac risk factors, it offers a physiological cardioprotective mechanism. Monitor blood pressure when starting, especially if already on antihypertensives.
