Hepatotoxic protocol adjunct
TUDCA (tauroursodeoxycholic acid) is an endogenous bile acid that protects hepatocytes from bile acid–induced apoptosis and reduces endoplasmic reticulum stress. It's the taurine-conjugated form of UDCA (ursodiol), which is FDA-approved for primary biliary cholangitis. In supplement contexts it's used as a hepatoprotective agent during protocols involving oral compounds or anything with liver burden.
Loose stool/diarrhea at high doses
Rare: nausea
Drug interactions with cholesterol-lowering medications
Generally excellent safety profile at 250–1000 mg/day
Taking without dietary fat — TUDCA is a bile acid; absorption improves significantly with fat in the stomach
Not getting baseline liver enzymes (ALT, AST) before starting intensive peptide protocols
Stopping immediately when a protocol ends — continue for 4 weeks post-protocol to clear residual hepatic stress
Cholesterol medications (statins, bile acid sequestrants) — TUDCA may affect bile acid metabolism; monitor lipids
Oral medications — bile acid changes can affect drug absorption; take TUDCA at a different meal time from other medications
Cyclosporine — TUDCA may alter blood levels; requires monitoring if on immunosuppression
TUDCA is the best liver protection supplement we have — the closely related FDA-approved drug ursodiol is used clinically for primary biliary cholangitis, confirming the hepatoprotective mechanism. For peptide users running oral compounds or anyone with hepatic concerns, 500 mg with a fat-containing meal is inexpensive protection. Always pair with NAC for dual-mechanism coverage.
